Birmingham law firm highly commended for its refreshing way of working

A Birmingham-based firm which gives specialist legal advice on fraud and financial crime – Tenet Compliance & Litigation – has received national recognition for its different approach to the traditional, professional services model.

Tenet’s founder, Arun Chauhan, has been highly-commended in the Sole Practitioner of the Year category in the Law Society’s 2019 Excellence Awards – the highest accolade for law firms in England and Wales.

The different way of working

When he founded Tenet, Arun wanted to demonstrate a fairer way for organisations to prosecute fraudsters and help them protect against fraud. This was primarily achieved in two ways: flexible working for its team leading to reduced costs for its clients.

Arun found the costs of national and international law firms were often prohibitive for charities, housing associations or SMEs. This meant obtaining niche advice for fraud prevention and investigation was often out of reach – despite the crucial difference this makes.

Flexible or part-time working combined with remote working is still not typical of traditional legal practices, despite many lawyers with family commitments needing this. Arun was aware of previous colleagues who had since left the profession as they couldn’t find an employment opportunity to handle complex work which balanced with family life. This highlighted how highly skilled talent was being lost from the legal sector.

As Tenet grew, it placed flexible working and quality of client delivery at the heart of its approach

This focus has improved employee morale and client satisfaction.

Law Society Excellence Awards recognition

Law Society of England and Wales president Simon Davis said: “In such uncertain times, we must never forget the immense contribution that solicitors make to society. Our work is indispensable to upholding the rule of law.

“At the Law Society Excellence Awards, we come together to celebrate outstanding success in the sector.

“There are more than 180,000 solicitors in England & Wales: to be highly-commended is to be recognised as among the best of the best.”

“This fantastic achievement is only possible due to the efforts of every member of our growing team,” says Arun. “We’re really proud with the result, there were some fantastic people in the room.”
