Gift Wrap Start-up Launches 100% Recyclable Range

Greeting cards are purchased – and received – by everyone in the UK all year round. From Birthdays and Anniversaries to Congratulations and Christmas, there’s a card for every occasion. In fact, we spent almost £1.4 billion on greeting cards in the UK in 2020 and estimates suggest that figure will rise in the future. But what many people don’t realise is that most of these cards are not recyclable.

Being made from cardboard, It’s easy to assume that all greeting cards will be recyclable, but plastic and foil elements used to make their designs stand out means the card will ultimately end up in landfill waste. That’s why Paper Crate was formed to provide a range of cards, wrapping paper and other gifting products that are all fully recyclable or biodegradable.

Paper Crate founder, Sandy O’Connor says “I am passionate about protecting the environment and I try to cut out plastic waste wherever I can.” She continues “Sustainable greeting cards and wrapping paper is currently limited in the market, with many greeting card companies still using non-recyclable materials. I want to provide a range that customers can use without having to worry about its impact on the environment.”

Paper Crate’s eco-friendly greeting cards are made from either recycled or FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) certified paper and are printed in the UK using animal-friendly inks. They are shipped to customers in recycled kraft envelopes and are fully recyclable, including the cellophane wrapper.

Sandy’s vision is that one day, all cards and wrapping paper will be fully recyclable. Until then, she hopes that Paper Crate makes it easier for the eco-conscious to find cards and paper in designs they love whilst minimising their environmental impact.
