Jet2.com helps its owner fly

JET2.COM owner Dart Group said today that it expected its full year results to be ahead of expectations after benefiting from its winter schedule.

The company also said it had continued to trade ahead of market expectations during the second half of its financial year.

The Leeds-based company, which also operates the Fowler Welch-Coolchain logistics operations, said that the leisure airline had benefited from a cautious approach to its winter schedule, supplemented by a strong charter programme.

Jet2.com, which flies from Belfast, Blackpool, Edinburgh, Leeds Bradford, Manchester and Newcastle airports and has 30 aircraft, flew 2.3m passengers in the six months to the end of September – 300,000 less than the same period in 2007 because it reduced its routes to 74 from 77.

Dart said that it was pleased to report that scheduled bookings and passenger numbers for Summer 2009 were in line with 2008 levels.

A similar strong performance has been put in by its distribution division Fowler Welch-Coolchain.

“Overall, the board expects the group’s full year results to be ahead of current market expectations, as a result of both the strong trading performance and one-off treasury gains, driven by the strength of the US dollar,” it said.

The group, which runs both its businesses from Leeds, expects to announce its preliminary results for the year ended March 31, 2009 in July.
