THE head of Asda's George clothing business is leaving to become managing director of department store chain Debenhams.
Angela Spindler, who is global managing director of Leeds-based Asda's George operation, responsible for its UK operation and its international development, will join Debenhams on February 4 next year in the newly created role of managing director.
She will join the board of Debenhams and report directly to chief executive Rob Templeman and her responsibilities will include future development of the Debenhams brand, for its marketing operation and its growing online business.
Before joining Asda, Ms Spindler held senior positions at Cadbury Schweppes and Pedigree Masterfoods.
Mr Templeman said: “'We are delighted that Angela has agreed to join the team at Debenhams. Her wealth of experience in retail and brand management at the helm of one of the largest fashion and clothing retailers, together with her broader knowledge of retailing, will considerably strengthen the board. I am looking forward to working with Angela as we take the company to the next stage in its development.''
