Food producers make soap debut

SOME of Yorkshire’s rising food stars are to make their screen debut on one of the nation’s longest running soaps – Emmerdale.
Yorkshire Crisps, Shepherd’s Purse, Wensleydale Creamery, Brown Eggs, Wharfe Valley Farm will see their products and marketing materials on TV as they go on sale in the soap’s new store ‘Wylde’s Home Farm Fayre’.
Highly regarded eateries The Balloon Tree and The Star Inn will also be promoted.
The unusual deal was brokered by deliciouslyyorkshire – the consumer brand for the Regional Food Group for Yorkshire and Humber (RFG).
Martin Radmall from the Emmerdale production buying team said: “The deliciouslyorkshire brand represents fantastic tasting food and drink from the Yorkshire and Humber region, so we were happy to include its branding in our new farmshop.
“The Emmerdale farmshop will have similar messages to the RFG, such as supporting local producers and products and buying seasonal, local food. We’re very pleased to include such high quality products from the region – the Emmerdale families will be spoilt for choice.”
RFG chief executive Jonathan Knight added: “Our members should be very proud that their products will be seen on a national platform.
“The exposure will help to highlight to the rest of the UK how important Yorkshire’s produce is and encourage people to think about why regional food is so important.”
