Building briefs: New superstore for Filey and more

PLANS for a new supermarket in Filey that will bring 180 jobs to the area has been given the go-ahead.

The Leeds office of national independent town planning consultants DPP has won planning permission to build a Tesco store on Station Avenue.

With a gross floor space of 21,5278 sq ft the new development will include 133 customer car parking spaces and an additional 100 parking spaces for public use.

DPP has said that a number of sustainable design features to promote energy efficiency will be incorporated into the build.

Chris Darley, associate partner at DPP, said: “The store will include a combined heat and power plant, timber cladding system, roof ventilators and roof lights. These measures will increase the energy efficiency of the store and minimise any impact on the environment.

“The store will also assist in clawing back expenditure currently lost to locations outside Filey, resulting in more sustainable shopping patterns as local residents will be travelling much shorter distances to undertake their food shopping.  This will also have the knock on effect of increasing footfall in the town centre through associated linked trips.”

Work is expected to start early next year.
