BAM wins places on YORbuild framework

BAM Construction’s North East team, which has its head office in Yorkshire, has secured a place on all four areas of the new YORbuild construction framework.

BAM Construction is just one of two firms to secure a place for contracts valued at more than £10m.

Meanwhile, BAM Construction is to lead a £6.3m project to renovate and conserve Leeds City Varieties music hall.

YORbuild is a series of collaborative construction frameworks for the procurement of building contractors to carry out new build and refurbishment works for the Yorkshire and Humber region’s 22 local authorities and other regionally based public sector bodies and is estimated to be worth around £1.2bn per year.

James Wimpenny, Director of BAM Construction North East, which is also building Headingley Carnegie Pavilion and restored Harrogate Royal Hall last year, said: “This is an especially significant framework not just because of its financial impact, but because of the range of construction projects that it covers.

“The extent of the framework means significant regeneration and employment across the North East and the nature of this sort of agreement is well suited to a company like BAM because our approach is based on developing practical partnerships with clients, their communities, and architects for example.

“Construction is a fiercely competitive market and although a position on the framework does not guarantee any specific projects – more hard work is needed for that – we are now in a position to help regenerate Yorkshire and Humberside which is an excellent result for us.”

In Hull, BAM Construction recently completed the £90m St Stephen’s Development.

Leeds City Varieties Music Hall’s refurbished building is scheduled to open in late spring or summer 2011.

The project is funded by £5.3m from Leeds City Council, £2.7m from the Heritage Lottery Fund and £1.3m from fundraising by the Leeds Grand Theatre and Opera House.

BAM relocated recently to Thorpe Park in Leeds, and its ultimate parent, Royal BAM Group, is the ninth largest construction group in Europe.
