Contractor appointed to £4.5m school extension

ISG has been appointed by Leeds City Council to deliver a £4.5m extension and refurbishment at Hunslet Moor Primary School.
The project will enable the Leeds school to expand its intake from 45 to 60 pupil places from September 2018, increasing overall capacity from 315 to 420 pupils.
A new, two-storey steel frame extension will link into the existing school and provide an additional six classrooms, alongside three new group rooms.
An extensive refurbishment of the main school building will see ISG reconfigure accommodation to create a further three classrooms, install a new kitchen and upgrade mechanical and electrical services.
The school will remain open throughout the duration of the project, with ISG phasing the programme to carry out work out of school hours and during holiday periods, with completion scheduled for late autumn 2018.
Procured through the YORbuild2 capital works public sector framework, the project is one of four education schemes ISG currently has on site in the region, including the £14m Leeds Arts University extension, a £3.7m refurbishment to an all-through academy in Morley and a £5.5m new build primary school in Durham.
Tim Harvey, regional director for ISG, said: “Across the region we currently have around £28m worth of education projects on site, and recently handed over a further framework project, with the opening of the new £10m Temple Learning Academy in Leeds. It is inspiring to see the transformational change these new facilities have on pupils, teachers, parents and the wider community, and it is through efficient procurement vehicles, like the YORbuild2 framework, that we can hit the ground running and get these schemes to site quickly, whilst delivering high quality and best value outcomes to local authorities.”
