Fencing manufacturer to close Sheffield site

More than 80 jobs are being cut at a Sheffield firm which is to close its doors after the firm’s UK operations experienced declines in volumes and “was running at a loss.”

Fencing manufacturer Betafence on Shepcote Lane, which to trade as historic firm Tinsley Wire, is to stop production. A total of 84 of the 89 jobs are to be lost, according to reports.

The factory became part of Betafence in 1989 and its closure follows years cut backs. It had once employed around 400 people on a site on Sheffield Road.

Talking to The Star, a director of the firm said: “Over the past few years our UK operations were experiencing significant long-term declines in volumes and was running at a loss.

“We remain committed to serving the perimeter protection market with our world leading products but will do so based on our quality and our innovative global solutions.”

TheBusinessDesk.com has approached Betafence for a comment.
