People: Property developer welcomes funding manager; Surgical Innovations appoints new CEO; and more

Sheffield-based Henry Boot Developments has promoted Hamer Boot to Investment and Funding Manager.

Previously Regional Manager for Yorkshire and the North East, Hamer will now spearhead HBD’s asset management strategy and continue building relationships with funders.

Hamer joined HBD in 2013 having previously held roles with CBRE, JP Morgan and Goldman Sachs.

Hamer said: “Part of the Henry Boot Group of Companies, our financial backing, reputation for delivery, understanding of core markets and our dedicated team of project managers is a compelling offer for prospective funding partners.

Surgical Innovations, the Leeds-based designer and manufacturer of technology for minimally invasive surgery, has announced the appointment of David Marsh as CEO.

Marsh joined the Board of the Company as Group Commercial Director on the acquisition of Elemental Healthcare in August 2017 reporting to Nigel Rogers, Executive Chairman. Prior to becoming a founding director of Elemental in 2006, he was European VP of Sales & Marketing at Gyrus International Limited.

Marsh’s appointment as CEO gives rise to the following changes in Board and senior management responsibilities:

Nigel Rogers, Executive Chairman, will relinquish his executive responsibilities and become Non-Executive Chairman; Melanie Ross, CFO/COO will hand over her COO responsibilities to a newly appointed Operations Director; Adam Power, Group Business Development Director, will take sole responsibility for all commercial and business development activities of the group; and Alex Hogg will join the senior management team as Operations Director.

Nigel Rogers, Executive Chairman, said: “These changes conclude the successful acquisition and integration of Elemental into the Group and will allow Surgical Innovations to be even more proactive in meeting the demands of its global healthcare customers and partners.

Private equity firm NorthEdge Capital has announced the appointment of Maninder Minhas as Investment Manager and Lloyd Williams as Portfolio Director at its Yorkshire base.

Minhas joins the private equity house from Deloitte, where he was an Associate Director having spent six years in the M&A team.

During this time, he advised on a wide variety of transactions, including disposals, acquisitions and buyouts for privately owned, private equity backed and listed businesses.

Williams has over 25 years’ experience covering private equity, investment banking, corporate advisory and restructuring. He was formerly the Head of Private Equity for Kuwait Finance House (Bahrain), where he was responsible for the management and exit of a $300m portfolio of international investments.

Earlier in his career, he held senior roles with KPMG, Deutsche Bank (Singapore) and Zeus Capital.

The firm’s Yorkshire office saw three transactions worth over £65m completed in 2018. Deals included supporting the MBOs of Platinum Stairlifts, a designer and manufacturer of stairlifts, and engineering tooling supplier Cutwel Limited, both based in West Yorkshire, and investing in Harrogate-based cloud services specialist, iPortalis.

Amy De-Balsi, founder of the Leeds Digital Jobs Fair, has joined Bruntwood SciTech as Head of Innovation and Partnerships in Leeds.  

Based at Platform in the city centre, De-Balsi is focused on bolstering Leeds’ tech cluster.

As well as launching the Leeds Digital Job Fair, she has worked in both the private and public sector. She spent five years at Yorkshire Forward overseeing a portfolio of projects to develop the region’s digital sector and also held a number of senior positions at Sky Betting and Gaming.

In her time as a consultant, De-Balsi’s’s clients included the NHS Digital Delivery Centre, Leeds Beckett University and Leeds Trinity University. She also spent some time as the Director of not-for-profit, independent tech hub, Leeds FutureLabs.

She said: “I’ll be working hard to provide our tech start ups with vital business support through a wide network of organisations that can accelerate their success – from academic institutions to investors and professional service providers.

“The city regions’ leaders are building the future economy around the tech industry and  Platform is right at the centre of this – constantly enriching the sector with new innovators and talent.

“We’re at a point in time where there’s an opportunity to do something really big and speed is an important factor; we want to act as a catalyst, helping to reap economic benefits for the regional economy sooner rather than later.”

ITI Network Services, the Sheffield-based wireless and fixed line telecoms service provider, has appointed Ian Sibbald as Operations Director.

The business works with Europe’s largest communications companies providing telecommunications services and infrastructure in some of the most demanding environments.

Sibbald’s previous appointment was with the international property and infrastructure group, Lendlease.

Jason Denmark, CEO of ITI’s parent company, The Templand Group, said: “Ian brings a proven track record of delivering business growth throughout his career. In this position, Ian will provide strategic operational guidance and senior leadership to  the ITI management team.

Orchard FM, the Huddersfield-based facilities management firm, has appointed Colette Watts as its new Managing Director.

Watts will be tasked with driving the strategic growth of the business’s IT, general maintenance, waste and other facilities management support across Calderdale and Kirklees.

Watts has experience in IT and operations, having started her career with Quinn Insurance where she worked on the technical service desk before moving into IT operations focusing on customer journey and change management.

She joins Orchard FM from Kinect Energy in Elland where she was Operations Director.

Watts said: “I am looking forward to overseeing the continued delivery of high quality facilities management services into the local community and keeping the client at the heart of everything we do.

“Much of my career has centred on refining internal processes to optimise service delivery to the client and I will be making sure that Orchard’s customers are receiving the very best experience every time they interact with us,” she added.
