Global giant acquires digital health specialist
Digital health pioneer Inhealthcare has been bought by Californian medical equipment giant ResMed, TheBusinessDesk.com can reveal.
Harrogate-based Inhealthcare provides remote patient monitoring and virtual wards to support the treatment of 4m patients across the UK.
It was founded in 2012 by Yorkshire entrepreneur Peter Wilkinson, who turned 70 last month.
The deal, for an undisclosed sum, sees Inhealthcare become part of a global company which employs 10,000 people and has annual sales of $4.2bn (£3.3bn).
In a statement, Inhealthcare’s chief executive Bryn Sage said: “By joining forces, we will be able to expand service offerings, scale operations and extend impact on patient care throughout the UK.”
Inhealthcare generated revenues of £2.2m in the year to March 2023. It recorded a pre-tax loss of £665,000, which it attributed to investing in its pathway development team.
It has key contracts with integrated care boards in West Yorkshire, Humber and North Yorkshire, and Cambridge and Peterborough, and a major contract in Scotland.
ResMed specialises in digital health and cloud-connected devices, treating conditions including sleep apnea, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), and other chronic diseases.
It is listed on the New York Stock Exchange and has a market value of $30bn (£24bn). The company’s UK operations had revenues of £65m and about 100 staff in its latest published accounts, for the year to June 2022.
