Major chemicals site sold

A YORKSHIRE chemicals site is under new ownership.

The 35 acre site in Selby has been acquired by Industrial Chemicals Limited (ICL) from Clariant Production.

The financial details of the sale have not been disclosed.

ICL, whose core businesses include the supply of water treatment chemicals, flocculants and detergents, plan to use the site as an additional manufacturing facility to the five they already operate in the UK.

ICL also has a site in Louisiana, USA.

Peter Butcher, sales director of ICL, said: “This is an excellent site in a location which complements our existing UK and European footprint.

‘We look forward to breathing new life into the site and in doing so create opportunities for people living in the area.”

The site comprises a production area and includes various multi level factory areas, offices, stores, laboratories, warehousing, plant rooms, switch rooms, workshops and ancillary space.

Another area of the site has an outline consent, due to expire in 2012, to expand operations.

The sale was concluded on behalf of the vendors by the Leeds office of chartered surveyors, Eddisons.

Simon Croft, director in the agency department at Eddisons said: “This is a good deal for all parties and one which allows the sites’ existing infrastructure to be fully maximised.

“We received serious enquiries from a number of different parties which reflected the variety of potential uses the site offers.”

Eddisons also completed the sale of the former Clariant industrial complex in Horsforth, West Yorkshire, last year and has worked with Clariant to secure new premises for its UK headquarters.
