Power plant set to go-ahead

POWER generator E.ON has confirmed its plans to start building a new biomass-fuelled energy plant in Yorkshire later this month.
The £120m plant will be constructed at the site of the old Tinsley Towers, near to the Meadowhall Shopping Centre.
Once up and running it will generate enough power for 40,000 homes by burning waste wood.
Dave Rogers, regional director for renewables at E.ON, said: “The plans we’ve announced not only set out the final design of the power station but also confirm our intention to begin construction later this month.
“As our commitment to Sheffield demonstrates, we’re leading the development of renewable energy in the UK and biomass power stations, such as Blackburn Meadows, form an important part of that low carbon solution.”
The 30 megawatt power station is due to be operational by the middle of 2014 and will create around 30 full-time jobs.
