Fusion IP investment to help ultrasound training device go global

FUSION IP, the Sheffield based company that turns university inspired intellectual property into business, has invested £140,000 in MedaPhor.

The Cardiff University spin-out produces innovative obstetrics and gynaecology ultrasound training products for medical professionals.

The investment round also includes a £100,000 investment by Finance Wales and £50,000 by Cardiff Council as well as monies from a number of individual private investors.

The money will be used to start sales of MedPhor’s ScanTrainer simulator.

The device bridges the gap between conventional training and the patient by combining the latest ‘real-feel’ haptic simulation techniques with curriculum-based interactive learning modules, to provide fast, effective ultrasound training.

Commenting on the launch Stuart Gall, chief executive of MedaPhor, said:
“This is a significant moment for MedaPhor. The funding will enable us to commence sales in the UK and, importantly, start the process of signing up distributors in North America and Europe.”
