Hammonds announces charity partner

THE Leeds office of law firm Hammonds has chosen Yorkshire Cancer Research as its charity partner for 2010.

Yorkshire Cancer Research is the UK’s largest regional medical research charity, which funds research at the Universities of Bradford, Hull, Leeds, Sheffield and York.

Jonathan Jones, partner and head of the Leeds office of Hammonds, said: “So many lives are and continue to be touched by this terrible disease in one way or another and it is shocking to learn that 259 people die each week from cancer in Yorkshire. Yorkshire Cancer Research investigates the causes and cures of cancer in order to develop better diagnosis and treatments for a variety of cancers.”

He added: “We are looking forward to working with our chosen charity throughout this forthcoming year, and hope to raise as much as possible to help Yorkshire Cancer Research continue to fund its internationally renowned research within our region.”

Mark Stevens, chief executive of Yorkshire Cancer Research, said: “We are delighted to be working in partnership with Hammonds. The need for Yorkshire’s business community to support Yorkshire’s cancer research excellence has never been stronger, coming at a time when some national charities and the government are making cutbacks in the region.”
