Jinnah to open its eleventh restaurant

A FLAGSHIP Italian restaurant in Selby is to become the latest addition to the Jinnah chain.

A six figure sum has been invested in transforming the former Salvation Army building in Park Street into the opulent Caesar’s At The Abbey.

Around 20 new jobs have been created as a result of the new outlet – the 11th in the York-based group’s leisure empire that includes hotels, and Indian, Chinese and Mediterranean eateries.

The new restaurant’s main dining area will be on the ground floor, featuring an open-plan kitchen and coffee lounge. Live music can also be performed on a stage.

Saleem Akhtar, who heads the group, said that Selby was “an increasingly important location” and that he had been looking for some time for suitable premises.

“Our new venture is in a perfect location and Italian food is popular with all ages, so we aim to make this restaurant a favourite venue for a lot of people and an enjoyable culinary experience for Selby,” he said.

The Jinnah group, which has a £10m turnover and employs some 275 staff, has operated restaurants in York since 1990 and fields a brigade of chefs with many years experience, some of whom will be in charge of the new Selby kitchen.

Bon viveur Sir Jimmy Savile, who is a personal friend of Mr Akhtar, will officially launch the restaurantant at the end of July.
