Appointments: Microdat; York Science Park; Larson Group; Barclays

BREWING marketing and manufacturing company Microdat has appointed Maitland Hyslop as chief executive.

With more than 20 years’ experience running and growing business in companies such as Tetra Pak, The Onyx Group and the NHS, Dr Hyslop’s main roles will be to improve processes, identify new markets and grow market share.

Microdat founder Stephen Midgley said: “We are delighted to have Maitland join our team. He brings a vibrant approach and a wealth of new ideas to the company. His appointment means I am free from the day to day running of the business and can concentrate on designing and developing the next generation of brewery process and packaging products.”

Dr Hyslop said: “I am delighted to be joining the team at Microdat. I will be working closely with Stephen and David Midgley to develop the business in a number of areas. I look forward to meeting our customers as soon as possible.”

Tracey Smith with Dr Robert Brech, YSP chairman, and Richard FlanaganRICHARD Flanagan has been appointed to the board of York Science Park.

Mr Flanagan has more than 20 years experience in the York and Yorkshire regional property market, specialising in commercial property agency and development consultancy and valuation.

Now a director of Flanagan James, a commercial property consultancy based in York, he has held senior positions in private practice in Leeds and York.

York Science Park managing director Tracey Smith said: “I’m thrilled to welcome Richard to York Science Park. He brings with him extensive board level and leadership experience both in the property sector and in other senior positions across Yorkshire, all of which will be invaluable to the board. As a business owner himself he can also empathise with our resident businesses.”

SEARCH specialist Larson Group has made two new senior appointments  following its recent relocation to new larger head office premises in Harrogate.

James Johnson, who has more than 10 years’ experience in the recruitment sector, joins as associate director to head up the finance and banking team.

Julian Pawson, a specialist in bespoke assignment resourcing predominantly within manufacturing and engineering, will service a broad portfolio of clients in the PE and VC sector.

Larson has also recruited a new trainee, James Lee, to boost its oil and gas team.

Chief executive Pete Robinson said: “Larson Group is going through a period of exceptional growth and further senior appointments will take place in the coming months to ensure our plan is met.”

Gary MacNicholGARY MacNicoll has joined Barclays’ Yorkshire corporate team as a relationship director.

Mr MacNicoll will be responsible for multi-national corporate businesses with a turnover in excess of £20m in the Yorkshire region.

He has extensive knowledge in the multi-national arena having previously worked for London-based UBS Investment Bank for seven years specialising in prime services distribution across Europe. He also worked for Morgan Stanley Investment Bank for six years covering multi-asset class hedge funds and asset managers across financing and derivatives, with a focus on US clients with European headquarters in London.

SPECIALIST engineering company MS International has announced that executive director and company secretary David Pyle has stepped down after 45 years of service with the company, including 33 years as an executive director.

Mr Pyle will remain with the company as a non-executive director.

The company has appointed David Kirkup as the new company secretary.

MSI is based in Doncaster and operates three divisions making naval weapons, tactical and navigation equipment, steel forging and petrol station superstructures.
