Future’s bright for Yorkshire’s electronics firms

MORE than 20 electronics firms from across the region have increased their competitiveness and taken on new staff thanks to business support from Electronics Yorkshire.
The not-for-profit organisation, which is supported by regional development agency Yorkshire Forward, has been working with electronics manufacturing firms to help them develop staff training programmes and marketing strategies as well as invest in new equipment.
Around 145 news jobs look set to be created a result of the initiative, which has also helped companies increase their turnover and secure existing jobs.
Among the companies to benefit from the funding support is Rotherham-based Arrow Technical Services.
The company was helped in the purchase and installation of new production equipment, which will allow it to meet new lead-free manufacturing demands.
Chris Worrall, managing director at Arrow Technical Services, said: “The new production equipment has enabled us to keep up to date with the latest manufacturing technology advances and allowed us to maintain and win new contracts due to our improved manufacturing capabilities, as a result.
“The support and assistance from Electronics Yorkshire has been invaluable and can only bring huge benefits to the whole region in terms of jobs and job security.”
Allan Row, Electronics Yorkshire’s business development officer for South Yorkshire said: “Our job is to support the growth of electronics companies and we are delighted to have been able to assist so many companies in South Yorkshire through our business development programme.
“The scheme has not only created and maintained jobs in the area, but has also increased the manufacturing base and attracted new business into the region.”
Finance for the Electronics Yorkshire scheme came through Objective One funding from the European Regional Development Fund and was made available to Electronics Yorkshire by regional development agency Yorkshire Forward.
