YIBC motivates and inspires once again

FROM a gold medallist to a politician and hugely successful businessman, this year’s YIBC did not fail to motivate and inspire its audiences.

The sell out event saw around 700 business people spend a sunny Friday at The Spa, Bridlington, for the pinnacle of this year’s Humber Business Week.

The YIBC had a stellar line up with former foreign secretary David Miliband, ex-CEO of Tesco Sir Terry Leahy, TV professor Brian Cox, six-time Paralympic gold medallist David Weir, globe-runner Rosie Swale Pope MBE and former Tory Deputy Prime Minister Lord Hesletine.

Messages of positivity and lessons to learn proved a successful formula once again.

Alan Johnson MP spoke about how proud he was of the YIBC and what businesses are doing in Hull and East Yorkshire, and audiences were inspired with words of wisdom.

Rosie Swale Pope told audiences: “The future is bright. Keep aiming high in your goals and dreams. The future is you.”

Sir Terry Leahy took Tesco further than anyone could have expected and on Friday, he revealed a wealth of inspirational knowledge to audiences.

Leahy started to lead the supermarket through to success via customer knowledge and research. Tesco soon stretched its lead as the UK’s largest retailer and also grew internationally.

He said: “The most useful thing to do was speaking to the ordinary customers. If you listen to them about their lives, what is important to them and what is affecting them, you will learn to fix the business. All I had to do was just listen to the customers and follow whatever they wanted and once we did that we never had to go out and find growth.”

KC’s business and consumer director, Gary Young, said: “What a great way to bring Humber Business week to a successful close. For me, it has been all about showcasing the very best the region has to offer and there has been opportunity to share best practice and learn from the experts.”
