New jobs set for Humber Enterprise Zone

TWO new businesses will create an influx of jobs within the Humber Enterprise Zone.
Up to 50 new jobs will be created at the BAE Systems’ site in Brough, East Yorkshire, by aerospace components manufacturer Supercraft and house-builder Black Cat Homes .
Supercraft is targeting up to 50 new workers over the next two years after opening another office and has already recruited a number of workers who left BAE as part of a recent redundancy programme.
Black Cat Homes, which specialises in building bespoke homes in East Yorkshire, will also open an office on the site, having outgrown its current site in South Cave.
The BAE site became part of the Humber Enterprise Zone, which includes a range of sites on both banks of the Humber, in the wake of BAE’s decision to downgrade its Brough operation.
Brough site director, Jim Welsh, said the move was the latest success for the zone since it linked up with private equity group, Bridgehouse Capital, to begin attracting firms to the area.
He said: “Over the last six months, MAI and Real Estate Solutions along with Bridgehouse Capital have been working hard to secure lettings on the Brough Enterprise Zone site.
“The relocation to the site of these two companies will help to create and sustain jobs for this area for the future.”
Supercraft said the focus of its new Brough facility will be around the manufacture of pipes and duct for major blue chip customers, including Airbus, Agusta Westland and BAE Systems.
Sales director Paul Barber said: “The business is growing all the time and we are looking forward to using the wealth of experience in aerospace manufacturing at Brough to continue this growth.”
The Supercraft head office will remain in Byfleet, Surrey.
Keith Saunders, the founder of Black Cat Homes, said: “The Enterprise Zone offers us the opportunity to move into much better facilities, we will have conference facilities, storage space and better office space.
“The house-building industry will be part of the solution to delivering growth for our economy and we want to play a big part in that.”
The new arrivals join manufacturer Cablescan which has already nearly doubled its workforce to 70 employees having moved onto the site in December.
