Appointments: Hull City Council; Smailes Goldie Financial Recruitment; World Trade Centre Hull & Humber; Payme

DARRYL Stephenson has been appointed as Hull City Council’s chief executive for a further two years.

Stephenson was brought in following the departure of Nicola Yates last year.

Stephenson’s new role is on a part-time basis.

SPECIALIST recruiter Smailes Goldie Financial Recruitment (SGFR) has appointed new director Shaun Brown to head up its operations and drive the business forward.

The firm, which was formed as a partnership between chartered accountants Smailes Goldie and East Yorkshire recruitment company Emmerson Kitney, specialises in providing financial recruitment services to SMEs, corporates and blue chip companies across the Yorkshire region.

Hull-born Brown brings more than 16 years experience to his role at SGFR working for one of the world’s largest financial recruitment firms placing candidates in positions ranging from accounting operations to executive level roles.

His appointment sees his return to East Yorkshire to help local firms find the talent they require to grow.

Mr Brown said: “I have had a fantastic career so far helping UK and global businesses find the right people for their organisations and that has been very rewarding.

“In recent years I’ve developed a desire to come back to East Yorkshire and help companies here. Even though I have lived in the area I have never worked in Hull and I wanted to change that, I wanted to make a difference to local businesses to help them get equal access to the talent that is available, to help them grow and develop.”

ONE of the region’s leading authorities on international law has been appointed a director of World Trade Centre Hull & Humber.
Dominic Ward, senior partner and head of the shipping and transport department at Andrew Jackson Solicitors, has taken on the role following the retirement of Rob Penrose, a founding director of the World Trade Centre and the law firm’s managing partner.
Mr Ward joins three other directors, Peter Brown, Carolyn Burgess and Lindsay West, and will take a strategic role in the World Trade Centre’s development.
“The World Trade Centre is a unique, privately funded organisation and is at the heart of economic regeneration in this area,” he said.
“As a law firm that specialises in advising businesses and has a particular expertise in international work, we want to be closely aligned with this exciting initiative that is part of a global network of businesses.
“I believe that the World Trade Centre has an important role to play in the key areas of economic development for this region such as digital and renewables, and it is Andrew Jackson Solicitors’ policy to contribute in any way we can.”

LEEDS businessman Andrew Mitchell has joined rapidly expanding payroll outsourcing specialist Payme as a new investing executive partner.

Launched by founder John Patrick in Harrogate 20 months ago and recently relocated to Wetherby, the company has grown monthly revenues to over £1m.

From a core base of construction industry clients, business has expanded to cover transport, manufacturing and the education sectors, underpinned by a £25,000 investment in new software and website enhancement.
