News in brief: Creative agency in double celebration; Korean trip for Leeds director and more

A LEEDS creative agency is marking a double celebration after securing a commission from the Department for Children, Schools and Families and becoming an approved supplier to Education Leeds.

ICM Creative Communications has played a key role in designing two interactive CDs to promote a national procurement system for schools to help teachers and education managers tap into the benefits of the new system.

ICM, which boasts a 16-strong team, has also been chosen as an approved supplier of design and print to Education Leeds, a not-for-profit organisation which is wholly owned by Leeds City Council and provides education support services to all school-aged children and young people across the city.

As an approved agency to Education Leeds, ICM will provide a range of services including the design and production of corporate materials such as annual reports, strategy documents and promotional materials for Education Leeds and Leeds schools.

ANNETTE Williams, director of the Yorkshire-based UK Resource Centre for Women in Science, Engineering and Technology (UKRC for Women in SET), has travelled to Korea as part of an annual project to share best practice between female scientists in the UK and Korea.

The UK-Korea Women in Science Forum was launched by Women into Science and Engineering (WISE) in 2006, following a visit from Korea’s First Lady to the UK’s Royal Institution two years before.

Women from the UK SET community and the Korean Ministry of Education, Science and Technology (MEST), have met in both countries on an annual basis since.

At this year’s forum, a joint UK-Korea project, the Leadership Book on Women in SET, is to be launched, which is modelled on the UKRC’s annual WOOA project.

Ms Williams said: “The UK-Korea Women in Science Forum aims to understand the global challenge of promoting the participation and role of women in SET and sharing best practice and ideas. By working together to overcome challenges, we have been able to make great progress over the past four years in raising the profile of female scientists in both countries.”
