Appointments: Yorkshire IoD; Sandersons; Clough Corporate Solutions; Walker Morris

CORPORATE legal expert Jonathan Oxley has been appointed the vice chair for Yorkshire Institute of Directors (IoD).
Already the chair for West Yorkshire IoD, Oxley will work alongside chairman Peter Holmes to promote the work of the UK’s premier business lobbying group in the region. He is a director in the Corporate Finance department of Yorkshire law firm Lupton Fawcett Denison Till, which has offices in Leeds, Sheffield and York.
Oxley said: “In this wider regional role I also hope to be able to contribute to the growth and success of each of the four IoD branches in Yorkshire.
“I very much look forward to working with regional chairman Peter Holmes and our regional director to ensure that we are a strong voice on policy issues relevant to our region and that we deliver a programme of events which help our members develop their skills and knowledge as directors.
“In this wider regional role I also hope to be able to contribute to the growth and success of each of the four IoD branches in Yorkshire.”

SANDERSONS Solicitors has appointed a London lawyer to head up its new look commercial department.
Barrister Hilary Barlow, originally from Leven, studied at Cambridge University before working in the capital, joined the Parliament Street firm as a senior commercial lawyer.
The company is currently bolstering its commercial department and has made a number of key appointments in recent months.
Paul Grimwood, director at Sandersons Solicitors and head of the Commercial and Civil Litigation department, said: “Hilary joins myself, Katie Atkinson, Emma Greenwood, Edward Allen, Lana Fairfield and Paul Brittain in our newly restructured commercial department, which is the largest team we have had for some years. Hilary’s vast experience will considerably strengthen our commercial department and I am very much looking forward to working with her.”

ANDREW WAUDBY, a member of the corporate recovery and insolvency team at Clough Corporate Solutions, has been appointed as a partner at the firm.
Clough Corporate Solutions is part of chartered accountancy firm Clough & Company.
Waudby will work alongside head of Clough Corporate Solutions Chris Wood. Wood said: “Andrew is extremely capable, as his exam results demonstrate, and since joining us in 2009 he has become an incredibly valuable member of our team. We work hard to save businesses and jobs here in Yorkshire, and through our office in the North West, and Andrew’s promotion to Partner is thoroughly deserved and will now see him dealing directly with businesses across all industries.”

WALKER Morris has bolstered its Competition team with the appointment of Shaukat Ali as a director.
The appointment is in response to a rise in client demand for competition law advice and follows a number of senior appointments to the team over the last 18 months including head of Competition, Trudy Feaster-Gee and regulatory director, Ray Watson.
Prior to joining the firm, Shaukat worked in the competition group at several city and national practices (in London, Brussels and Leeds), where he specialised in all aspects of UK and EU competition law, including merger control, cartels / restrictive agreements, and abuse of market power.
Head of Competition, Trudy Feaster-Gee, said: “Shaukat is a well regarded and experienced competition specialist and we are delighted that he has joined us. His appointment continues the Firm’s investment in a significantly augmented group of dedicated competition and regulatory law specialists.
