Yorkshire CBI chief to take role in Scotland

THE head of the CBI in Yorkshire, Andrew Palmer, is moving to take a key role with the employers’ organisation in Scotland.

Mr Palmer, who has been with the CBI in this region for a decade, the last four years as regional director, has been seconded to Scotland to become operations director.

The move, which has been confirmed after he spent the last few weeks in Scotland, follows CBI Scotland director Iain McMillan’s move to head the organisation’s work ahead of the Scottish independence referendum in September.

Mr Palmer’s role in Yorkshire will be taken by Giles Fletcher, who is currently the CBI’s deputy director in the North West.

Andrew Palmer said: “I have had a fantastic time working with great businesses in Yorkshire and I know I leave the region when it is strong and business is growing.

“I’m looking forward to working with colleagues and members in Scotland during what is certainly an interesting time.”

The CBI has already declared itself in favour of Scotland remaining in the UK and its stance has caused controversy with major universities and the Law Society quitting the organisation and the BBC suspending its membership until the vote.

Mr Palmer has earned himself a reputation as something of a troubleshooter at the CBI, having been seconded to run its London region for six months last year.
