Interims to taste good at Crawshaw

YORKSHIRE butchery group Crawshaw today said it had reversed a fall in like for like sales and that its first half performance would exceed expectations.

The quoted Rotherham-based meat retailer expects to announce its interim results for the six months ended July 31 on October 5.

In a trading update this morning, Crawshaw said a fall in like for like sales in its last financial year continued into the early part of its current financial year.

“However, by July, this trend had been reversed and we are presently generating like for like sales some 3% ahead of the prior year,” the group said.

“As reported previously, consistent improvements have also been made in our gross margin. This, together with improving sales, has resulted in a better than budgeted first half performance, with profits and cash generation well ahead of the same period last year.”

Crawshaw said it was “actively pursuing” its expansion plans and is in negotiations to take on a new site and is considering other premises as it looks to open more retail stores.
