Investment in the region is key for Walker Morris

INVESTMENT in the region is a key priority for successful Yorkshire law firm Walker Morris.
The Leeds-headquartered firm is a major employer in Yorkshire, with around 500 employees based in its Leeds city centre office, boasting one of the largest law firm teams in the region.
This year, Walker Morris is celebrating the 20th anniversary of its award-winning Children’s Charity Calendar Painting Competition with a special exhibition at the Tetley Gallery in Leeds. TheBusinessDesk.com will be featuring interviews with Walker Morris focussed on business investment in the community this week. Managing partner of Walker Morris, Ian Gilbert and artistic director at The Tetley, Kerry Harker, share their views on the short video below.
Operating in an increasingly international economy, Walker Morris says that investing in the region and maintaining a strong regional presence is hugely important. Its Calendar Competition is an example of this investment and support in the local community.
Gilbert said the firm is keen to promote the region. “We have to compete with London and on a global level now, so what you need is a big voice,” he said.
“The region is very important and it has to have a strong presence.”
More than 70% of Walker Morris’s business is from outside of the region and much of this has an international dimension.

The Tetley, located in the former headquarters of the world-famous Tetley Brewery, opened last year and aims to become a new centre for contemporary art and learning. The team behind the venture recognise the importance of successful partnerships between business and the arts.
Walker Morris’s Calendar Competition was launched in 1995 with the objective of raising the awareness of the importance of art and creativity in schools.
For two decades the competition has been encouraging young artists from across the Yorkshire and Humber region to paint a picture of their favourite month of the year which are then used to create a calendar which is sold in aid of Martin House Hospice.
Since the competition’s inception Walker Morris has raised more than £120,000 for the hospice.
