Retailer removes two non-executives for improper actions

RETAIL chain Nisa has removed two of its non-executive directors after an investigation into a leak of members’ data.

It was centred around a document that contained Nisa members’ details and passwords and investigators from EY and Kroll found evidence that resulted in the dismissal of Harris Aslam and Raza Rehman.

The two non-executives, who are aged 18 and 24 respectively, deny any wrongdoing and have said they may consider legal action unless the board reverses its decision. In a letter to its members, Nisa said they “had acted improperly and have left the board”.

The Scunthorpe-based retailer is a £1.6bn-turnover business which supports independent retailers across the UK, and represents almost 1,200 registered shareholders operating over 2,500 stores.

Mr Aslam had been touted in the media as a possible successor to outgoing chief executive Neil Turton last autumn, but last month the company announced the appointment of former Thomas Cook executive Nick Read as its new chief executive.
