Appointments: Clydesdale Bank, Silk Family Law, C2 Events

CLYDESDALE BANK PLC has announced that Ian Smith, its chief financial officer, has been appointed as an executive director. The appointment has received regulatory approval.

Ian, who joined the Bank on November 1 2014, currently serves on the Bank’s UK Executive Committee. He has also now joined the boards of Clydesdale Bank PLC and National Australia Group Europe Ltd as an executive director.

Ian Smith joined Clydesdale and Yorkshire Banks from Deloitte UK where he was financial services mergers & acquisitions leader and corporate finance partner.

Prior to Deloitte UK, Ian was a finance director with Lloyds Banking Group plc and HBOS plc.

An Economics graduate of Aberdeen University, Ian is a chartered accountant. He lives in Kinross.

Nia Jones Silk Family LawNorth Yorkshire family law firm Silk Family Law has added a new solicitor to its team.

Nia Jones joins Silk, where she will work alongside the firm’s 12 family law solicitors to advise clients on issues arising from separation and divorce.

Ms Jones studied at Durham University, converted her degree at Bristol College of Law and completed her training contract at Pannone in Manchester.

She said: “I wanted to come back and work in this region, and was looking for an opportunity to join a family practice in the region with an excellent reputation. I’m keen to experience all aspects of family law, and I feel very fortunate to be working alongside such well respected family law specialists.”

Silk partner Margaret Simpson said: “Nia fit the role we were looking to fill perfectly. She’s a newly qualified solicitor, but she brings knowledge and commercial experience that will enable her to hit the ground running and add value to clients immediately. Mark Saxby of C2eventsWakefield based event management business C2events has recruited Mark Saxby as executive director.

Mr Saxby was formerly sales and marketing director of Universal WorldEvents, now Ashfield Meetings and Events, and a former chairman of industry association, Eventia.

Mr Saxby said: “I am thrilled to have joined C2events. It is a buzzing company with a great team doing excellent work for some long standing clients.”

C2events founder, Cheryl Clarke said: “Mark has a great reputation, has achieved a lot in the industry and it is a real coup for us that he has decided to come on board.”
