Sirius signs deal with global mining supplier for £1.5bn York Potash Project

A PARTNERSHIP framework has been agreed between Sirius Minerals, the firm behind the proposed £1.5bn York Potash Project and Joy Global, a worldwide mining equipment manufacturer.
The agreement formalises the working relationship between the two firms and aims to build a long-term supply chain partnership to supply equipment and services to the York Potash Project.
The £1.5bn development would create approximately 1,000 jobs, and extract 13m tonnes of the fertiliser polyhalite a year.
Redcar and Cleveland Council have already approved planning permission, but the project also requires the consent of the North York Moors National Park authority.
Chris Fraser, chief executive of Sirius Minerals, said: “We’re delighted that one of the world’s leading mining equipment providers wants to increase its level of commitment to the Company and Project by agreeing to this partnership framework.
“An integrated and mutually beneficial partnership with our key suppliers will ultimately play a major role in the success of future operations.”
Ted Doheny, president US firm Joy Global, commented: “We’re excited to collaborate with Sirius Minerals on this significant mining project and play an important role in making the York Potash Project a success.
“This partnership further promotes our goal of providing equipment and services that will allow our customers to achieve the most consistent and productive performance in their mining operations.
“We look forward to providing world-class service and equipment by first bringing JBS Operational Excellence initiatives to streamline processes in the design phase.”
