Amsterdam hotel group snaps up York site

A HOTEL development is set to come to York as Vastint Hospitality, a fast-growing Amsterdam-based hotel chain, buys up a Hungate site for development.
On behalf of Hiscox, CBRE’s Specialist Markets team sold the hotel development site in York, adjacent to Hiscox’s new £19m office development, which houses up to 500 people.
There is planning consent already in place for a potential development, and Vastint is looking to develop a 120-bedroom Moxy Hotel on the site, a Marriott International’s economy hotel brand.
Shaun Skidmore, senior director at CBRE commented: “The creation of Hiscox’s landmark new offices has drawn a significant amount of attention to the Hungate area of York and this strategically positioned site holds clear potential for the creation of a new hotel to further complement the City’s leisure provision.
“A Moxy hotel would be a superb and unique addition to the York hotel scene, offering a fresh and contemporary experience for the younger end of the market. We are pleased to have concluded this deal and look forward to following the site’s progress.”
