Ice cream cheers credit crisis hit consumers
CONSUMER appetites for more adventurous ice cream flavours show no sign of diminishing despite the current tough economic climate, according to Pecan Delux Candy.
The Sherburn-in-Elmet-based US owned-firm is investing heavily in product development to meet growing demand for its new and unique ice cream sensations.
Credit busting creations include a black pepper sponge and fruit melon bark. Another of the company’s latest offerings is the daringly called mosquito bite cup – a rich melt in the mouth dark chocolate filled with treacly, fiery chilli syrup.
UK managing director Allan Dew said: “The UK ice cream industry is booming despite the country’s economic situation.
“Pecan Deluxe is continuing to expand its product portfolio by introducing new innovative ingredients and is hugely optimistic for a very successful 2009.”
Pecan is a fully owned UK subsidiary of the US based Pecan Deluxe Candy Company, a family owned business.
It was established in 1999 and supplies all of Europe and Australia from the Yorkshire plant.
The business employs around 45 people and specialises in the development and supply of food ingredients including sauces, fillings, nut pralines, dessert toppings, specialist ice cream inclusions and chocolate products.
