Engineering partnership’s hard work heads for China

TWO of Yorkshire manufacturers have successfully completed a contract to supply lithographic and chemical process tanks to China.

Leeds engineers and plastic fabrictors Barkston and Yeadon-based Process Line won the £300,000 contract to supply the complex kit against fierce international competition.

Weighing in at more than five tonnes, the 16 metre long, two metre wide engineered polypropylene tanks are now being transported from Leeds half way round the world to their new home in southern China.

Barkston’s experience in manufacturing projects on such a scale has helped it win contracts for similar processing tanks in the US, Italy and India.

The modular design is based around a heavy duty metal frame with laser cutting for accuracy and spark testing of all welds to ensure no leaks on site.

The processing tanks, valves and the piping that have been devised to process the chemical, are all made of specialists plastics that have been identified as fit for purpose, ensuring optimum productivity and long service life in a harsh chemical environment.

Managing director of Process Line Alan Arthur said: “The high quality workmanship of manufacturers like Barkston Plastics has been very instrumental to our success in winning significant export contracts.

“This is only the first phase of the contract with this particular client with whom we are building a long term relationship.”
