Prime public sector move to Sheffield

CAPITAL for Enterprise, the public body created to manage the Government’s £2bn SME finance support portfolio, is to open its head office in Sheffield.
The asset management body, which was launched in April 2008, designs, implements and manages finance measures to support SMEs across the UK.
The move is seen as a significant investment for Sheffield and has been fully supported by Creativesheffield – the city’s development company.
Rory Earley, chief executive of Capital for Enterprise, said: “The location decision was based on a number of considerations.
“Sheffield is a convenient location for both staff and clients and has good transport links with London and the other major UK cities. Sheffield also has good conference facilities and great value accommodation and restaurants for our many visitors.”
Mr Earley said that the assistance provided by Creativesheffield was key to setting up.
‘’We had excellent professional recruitment advice from the JOBMatch service and had no trouble attracting high calibre, professionally qualified candidates for senior investment roles,” he added.
“Creativesheffield also assisted with finding us a suitable property, helped us with the fit out, negotiated with agents and provided invaluable knowledge of the Sheffield market. This made the whole process much more manageable.”
Capital for Enterprise’s primary objective is to deliver the highest level of service to its customers.
The company manages programmes for the Department for Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform, including the new Enterprise Finance Guarantee and the Capital for Enterprise Fund, both launched by the Government in January 2009 as part of its Real Help for Business package.
Ann Allen, investment manager at Creativesheffield, said: “This investment is fantastic news for Sheffield.
“Capital for Enterprise has created 15 high value professional jobs, bringing many significant senior players from the banking and finance sectors into the city.”
She continued: “It’s great to see that Sheffield is still drawing business into the city despite the current economic downturn.”
Richard Caborn MP will perform the opening of the new offices at Broadfield Business Park on April 24, 2009.
