Waste manager prepares for rubbish roll-out

A YORKSHIRE recycling firm has celebrated its 25th anniversary by revealing plans to expand.

LSS Waste Management was established by Nigel Woolford, who started out with one vehicle and 10 skips, in 1984.

The Leeds-based company has grown to boast one of the largest independent waste management facilities in Europe that recycles more than 85% of domestic, commercial and construction waste with more than 330,000 tonnes processed annually.

Mr Woolford said LSS Waste Management, which provides a wide range of recycling services from wheelie bins to skips to aggregates, had plans to expand into South Yorkshire.

He said: “We now have over 3,000 skips at companies and sites across the region and it’s fair to say that we’re a very good bell weather for the Yorkshire economy.

“We believe we are seeing the green shoots of recovery through an increase in demand for our skips and the other services.

“We have come a very long way since the mid 80s and now employ over 160 people with an expected 2009 turnover of around £14m.

LSS Waste Management“We are now very much focused on geographical expansion as well as developing the range of services we offer from our Cross Green Industrial Park HQ. South Yorkshire is our next port of call.”

Mr Woolford added that he believed his company had an obligation to future generations to minimise the amounts sent to landfill.

LSS Waste Management is currently a major sponsor of Leeds Rhinos and has also been a sponsor of Leeds United.
