Educational boost for Horbury

A CONSTRUCTION services specialist has broken the £30m barrier for public sector contracts after securing new deals worth £2.6m.

The projects, which see Horbury Group working on state-of-the-art new schools in York and Whitley Bay, take the total public sector success of the group to well in excess of £30m.

Horbury Building Systems, one of the largest drywall contractors in the UK and one of nine companies which make up the Rotherham-based Horbury group, has been appointed to conduct a range of work on the projects including partitioning and plastering.

Trevor Wragg, managing director of Horbury Group, said: “Horbury Group has experienced prior success in securing and delivering major projects for public sector clients, and we will continue to pursue increasingly complex contracts as the government looks to build more schools and hospitals.

“Winning contracts such as these demonstrates just how much we are continuing to grow as a company on a national level.”

The £28m Joseph Rowntree School in York, which is due for completion in 2010, will feature an innovative central high street with learning clusters, flexible spaces and personalised learning areas.

And the project will also see the Horbury Group’s MWS Joinery lend its expertise in external larch cladding, ballustrading and folding partitions.

Another Horbury Group subsidiary, Titan Ceilings, has also been contracted to install raised access floors to the development, in addition to suspended ceilings at both schools.

The £20m Monkseaton High School in Whitley Bay, will serve more than 900 pupils when it opens its doors for the new term in September.

It is the second time in recent months that the group has secured major contracts, following the appointment of Horbury Building Systems and MWS Joinery to work on the new Heslington East campus at the University of York.

The Horbury Group announced its diversification into the public sector, winning major school and hospital contracts across the UK, to compliment its existing portfolio of private sector clients throughout the country.
