Charterhouse in Opus deal

A SPECIALIST recruitment business in York has been acquired as part of a rapid expansion strategy by its new owners.
Opus Appointments, which specialises in recruiting temporary and permanent administration staff, has been acquired by Charterhouse Recruitment, a competitor, in a deal advised by York-based commercial lawyers, Denison Till.
Opus Appointments , which operates throughout the York area, was founded in 1990, and has been trading under its current name since a management buyout in 2002.
Charterhouse Recruitment, which is based in York Place, Leeds and New Street, York, was founded in 1998 to specialise in accountancy recruitment throughout Yorkshire and Humber.
The acquisition gives Charterhouse a new total of 31 staff and a £5m turnover, making it one of Yorkshire's biggest independent accountancy, administration and secretarial recruitment consultancies providing permanent, contract and temporary staff to businesses throughout the region.
The company, which serves businesses ranging from small owner-managed ventures to large blue-chip and public sector organisations, is to open new offices in Hull in December and Sheffield in 2008.
Charterhouse's managing director, Abigail Simpson, said: “We were interested in Opus Appointments, a competitor in the York market, because its size and expertise complemented our development plans. The main attraction was its strength in temporary recruitment which is a major focus of our strategic growth plans.
Martin Frost, an associate in the corporate department of Denison Till, who advised on the acquisition, said: “This is an important strategic acquisition for Charterhouse Recruitment. We are pleased to have been able to support them and are sure that they will continue to thrive in this highly-competitive market.”
