Network Rail appoint contractor for £5.4m office upgrade

CONSTRUCTION firm ISG has been awarded a £5.4m scheme by rail operator Network Rail to refurbish and upgrade office accommodation in York.

ISG has been appointed to Network Rail’s three-year national property framework programme for both fit out and construction.

The contractor will strip out and reconfigure George Stephenson House, a five-storey building, in a phased programme of works with the building remaining in partial occupation throughout the project.

The building’s main entrance will be improved with the removal of a first floor link bridge and the addition of planar glazing to create an atrium.

A stainless steel staircase will be installed, whilst ground floor catering and dining facilities will be replaced and upgraded and a number of meeting rooms created.

Commercial office accommodation across the upper four floors will be remodelled to provide an open plan lay out.

The project is set to start early next month and is scheduled for completion towards the end of the year.

Craig Tatton, ISG’s UK construction managing director, said: “Targeting high profile framework opportunities remains a core strategic objective for ISG. A key factor in our success with Network Rail was our experience as a framework partner with Severn Trent Water.

“There are a great many similarities between these two organisations in terms of their overall property portfolios and Network Rail identified the value of appointing a contractor with sector specific expertise.”
