Affordable city centre scheme launched

YORKSHIRE Housing Group has worked in partnership with Leeds City Council to develop an innovative housing scheme in a bid to address the need for affordable city living.

The 44 Call Lane development of 12 one-bedroom flats was officially launched last week by Yorkshire Housing representatives.

The scheme, which comprises six flats for affordable rent and six flats for sub-market rent, was developed with the aim of providing affordable rented housing for those wanting to live or work in the heart of the city.

Located in the historic Call Lane area of Leeds, a stone's throw from the city's landmark Corn Exchange building, the development is covered in multi-coloured mosaic tiles chosen from a Victorian colour palette to ensure that it is in keeping with the listed buildings surrounding it.

Those interested in the six affordable rent properties must register with Yorkshire Metropolitan Housing, part of the Yorkshire Housing Group, to apply for the properties.

Applicants for the sub-market rent flats which are being handled by Space Property, Yorkshire Housing Group's rental agent, need to be working in Leeds and have an income of £25,000 or less. The sub-market flats will be discounted from open market value by 25%.

Sally Lynch, property marketing manager for Space Property, said: “There is currently a shortage of affordable city centre housing for single people or couples living in Leeds. Leeds is a thriving city and it is important that adequate housing is provided for city workers to enable its continued economic growth. This development combines luxury with affordability and we are confident that it will attract a great deal of interest.”
