Legal Appointments: Schofield Sweeney boost property team, Sheffield lawyer on tobacco mission and more

YORKSHIRE law firm Schofield Sweeney has appointed a commercial property partner to its real estate department.

Adam Hastie joins the firm from Eversheds where he was partner, and has also previously worked at Addleshaw Goddard.

He has been involved in a number of major property deals across the region, including the £300m Doncaster centre regeneration project for Muse Developments.

Mr Hastie has experience in retail, leisure, office, health and education sectors working for both public and private bodies.

A SHEFFIELD lawyer has been chosen to take part in a World Health Organization (WHO) initiative to tackle the illegal trade of tobacco products.

Sarah Maylor, a construction law specialist at law firm Halliwells, will travel to Geneva later this month to attend a meeting to discuss protocol on illicit trade in tobacco products.

Ms Maylor will be seconded to the WHO Framework Convention on Tobacco Control which is on hand to provide assistance to parties taking part in the INB.

Ms Maylor has previous experience in working with WHO, having been involved in previous sessions on the INB in Geneva in 2006.

She said: “It is a real privilege to be asked back by the WHO on a regular basis to assist at these conferences. Given the current financial climate I am grateful to Halliwells for providing my services for free and am looking forward to my next trip to Geneva.”

LAW firm DWF has appointed a solicitor to its newly launched agricultural team.

Kelly-Louise Kirby specialises in property and agricultural disputes and joins DWF from the property litigation team of York-based Harrowell Shaftoe, and has held previous roles with Gordons and Walker Morris.

The 12-strong agricultural team will offer services in areas such as private cliemt, litigation, real estate, tax and planning and animal regulatory.

DWF managing partner, Andrew Leitherland, said “We see agricultural law as a growth area and, in line with our strategy, are investing in people to build our strength and expertise.”

LAW firm, Ward Hadaway, has promoted an existing member of staff to the role of associate.

Nina Robinson works in the firms Leeds office in the employment team.

Four other promotions were made in the firm’s Newcastle office.
