Craft bakery tastes success following expansion

JUST Desserts is ready to launch a range of new products after doubling the size of its premises.

The Shipley-based bakers is launching three new desserts – a pear and almond franzipan and fig and almond franzipan tarts and a heart shaped puff pastry with fruit conserve and strawberry mouse filling – to complement its award-winning range.

The firm produces handmade desserts and quiches for restaurants, hotels, pubs and other foodservice outlets across Yorkshire.

It recently invested £50,000 in an expansion programme, which saw it take over an adjacent unit and acquire new eqipment.

In the year to March, business was up 15% on the previous year. The company employs a team of eight qualified bakers and a total staff of 16 at its bakery premises.

James O’Dwyer, Just Dessert’s managing director and founder, said that the firm was also now targeting caterers for corporate events and celebrations such as weddings.

“We believe our combination of attention to detail, quality and reliable personal service for customers has been the secret of our success in a difficult trading environment,” he added.

“We are also investing in new products and increased marketing over the next 12 months.”

Just Desserts has won gold awards in the Guild of Fine Foods Great Taste Awards for the last three years including for its best selling treacle tart , black cherry franzipan and Yorkshire curd tart as well as bronze awards for its French lemon tart and sticky toffee pudding.
