Hull back on MoD’s naval radar

HULL could once again be a naval manufacturer following a visit by Ministry of Defence (MoD) buyers.
The visit by the MoD’s afloat support team was organised by the Team Humber Marine Alliance (THMA) as part of a broader strategy to bring naval business back to the region.
The delegates, which included naval captains, was given a tour of the port of Hull facilities including a visit to a ship building and repair company.
The following day the delegates visited a further five THMA member companies in and around the region all keen to find out how they could take advantage of the opportunities available in the naval sector.
Mark O’Reilly, business development manager from VEN Management, who helped organise the visit, said: “The consensus from the MoD is unanimous regarding the high quality of the products and engineering at all the companies visited.
“These events are crucial for the development of the Humber region. The quality of the suppliers working here is second to none and we want to use our contacts and collaboration skills to bring large contracts to the region.”
The THMA in partnership with VEN Management have held a number of similar successful visits to the region in recent months including partners in the Queen Elizabeth Class Alliance programme, Babcock Marine, and BVT Surface Fleet – all leading suppliers to the MoD.
