MORE needs to be done across Yorkshire if the region is to hit its target of a 34% reduction in CO2 emissions by 2020, new research by GVA Grimley has claimed.

The Sustainability Report – Cities, Commerce & Carbon: The Role of Property, major cities including Birmingham, Cardiff, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Leeds, London, Manchester and Sheffield were all analysed in terms of carbon emissions, waste levels, and the relationship between carbon and property.

Leeds saw an increase of 0.7% in its CO2 emission levels which was in contrast to Sheffield which has made a significant reduction of -0.6%.

Sheffield produced 3.8m tonnes of carbon while Leeds produced 5.7m tonnes.

The highest domestic generated CO2 emission levels per head of population were found in Leeds, Edinburgh and Newcastle whereas the highest business-based CO2 emission levels per employee were in Sheffield, Birmingham, Liverpool and Cardiff.

OGDEN Waller Group, represented by international real estate advisor Savills, has let 19/20 Blenheim Terrace in Leeds to Tesco.

The international retailer has agreed a 15-year lease on the units and will pay an annual rent of £80,000. The trading area on the ground floor totals 2,963 sq ft with an  additional 2,971sq ft of space spread over three floors.

James Lamming at Savills, says: “We have been working closely with the Ogden Waller Group on the re-letting of this vacant bank and believe the new Tesco store will be an excellent addition to the parade, which includes Blackwells Books, Natwest and HSBC, in providing strong retail facilities for the students and the wider community in North Leeds.”

THE Leeds office of international property consultancy Knight Frank has secured a letting in the historic Holbeck Urban Village area of the city on behalf of Igloo Regeneration and CTP St James.

Knight Frank advised on a deal which has brought television production company True North to Holbeck.

True North, formerly based at the Yorkshire Television Studios in Kirkstall Road, which is behind productions such as Cutting Edge: Addicted to Surrogacy and Calendar Girls: Ten Years On, has taken 4,963 sq ft on the third floor of Marshalls Mills in Marshall Street.

Jess Fowle, creative director of True North, said: “’Holbeck Urban Village is a fantastic location for True North. We’re very excited about moving into such a vibrant business community and look forward to forging new partnerships with the other creative industries in the area.”
