Bigger, faster, better internet thanks to £250,000 investment

BUSINESSES across North Yorkshire are set to benefit from state-of-the-art internet connection following a £250,000 investment by telecoms firm York Data Services.

The company, which specialises in providing internet connectivity and IT support to firms across North Yorkshire, has installed two gigabit fibre links, which connect directly to the UK’s national internet hub in London’s docklands.

These links will deliver high speed, reliable internet connection to York Data Service’s York Science Park headquarters.

The new technology will enable local firms and business park owners to have access to world-class telecom services and help attract inward investment from national companies looking to relocate.

Mark Fordyce, chief executive of York Data Services, said: “We are very excited to make this significant investment to our network in this current economic downturn, as it will provide more opportunities for York companies at a time when next generation Internet is becoming an important part of winning business.

“This will also allow us to introduce some groundbreaking new services, including what will be the UK’s fastest fibre optic broadband for businesses by a considerable margin which we will be announcing later in the year.”

Denise Stuart, chief executive of york-england.com – an organisation tasked with attracting new investment to York and North Yorkshire, said the new technology would be a “terrific boost” for business in the York area.

“This sort of investment underlines the fact that York is a city that can provide the very latest data technology to people who work here and can now be considered one of the leading places to do business in the UK.”

The past few years have seen significant growth for York Data Services, which is now one of North Yorkshire’s leading business Internet services providers.

It supplies fibre-based connectivity and telecoms services to the York Science Park, the Hawk Creative Business Park in Easingwold and the Chocolate Works Development in York as well as individual businesses across North Yorkshire.
