Firms urged to look to Brazil for big opportunities

THE region’s businessess are being given a chance to boost their trade links with Brazil thanks to an inspirational showcase.

Organisers hope that the event on September 21 at the World Trade Centre Hull & Humber in Hull will showcase commercial opportunities with Latin America’s largest economy.

Martin Raven, HM consul-general in Sao Paulo, Chris Wall and Paul Eadie, from UK Trade and Investment (UKTI), will provide expert opinions on the new opportunities available for the region’s businesses in providing hi-tech, high-value support for Brazil’s major infrastructure programme, which includes seaports, airports, roads and railways.

Specific opportunities for business sectors including health and personal care, advanced engineering in the oil, gas and aerospace sectors, food and drink, ports and logistics, renewable energy and chemicals have been identified by the experts.

David Orr, sales director of Humber-based Simpson Seafish and Andrew Morgan, managing director of Supply Chain Europe, Cheltenham, who are already trading in Brazil, will also tell of their successful relationship with Brazilian customers.

There will also be a chance for business people to speak directly with UKTI staff in Brazil via live video link.

According to banking group Goldman Sachs, Brazil is set to become one of the world’s largest economies by 2020.

The country, which will be responsible for a third of the world’s growth this decade along with Russia, India and China, offers great scope for exporting expertise and knowledge in advanced technology and industry.
