Newman in as Master Cutler

JAMES Newman, the former deputy chief executive of Kelda Group and the current chairman of recycling products company Straight, has been named the new Master Cutler.
Mr Newman has become the 371st person to hold the ceremonial role as head of the Company of Cutlers in Hallamshire and aims to raise the profile of the region’s manufacturing industries.
The 59-year-old qualified as a chartered accountant in 1972 and did audit, accountancy and tax work for a number of Sheffield businesses, including Abbey Glen Laundries and Sheffield Wednesday.
His last full-time role was as group finance director and deputy chief executive of Kelda Group, the parent company of Yorkshire Water.
Mr Newman is chairman of Yorkshire online search company Infoserve.
He is also a non-executive director of both Bglobal and Dignity and is a governor of Sheffield Hallam University.
