Spicy supermarket deal for food manufacturer

INDIAN ‘cook at home’ specialist Kitchen Guru has received a listing in Tesco with four products from the company’s extensive range.

The East Yorkshire based company will be supplying spice packs of Chicken Tikka Masala, Chicken Korma, Lamb Rogan Josh and Chicken Jalfrezi to 55 Tesco stores in Yorkshire.

The products are visible herbs and spices, which have been selected and measured to create authentic Indian meals. A recipe card and cooking instructions are included, so customers only need to add a few fresh ingredients.

The concept was developed by husband and wife team Chandra and Rekha Parmar when Rekha found herself providing sachets of exotic, rare spices to save her friends the hassle of hunting them down.

Mr Parmar said: “We wanted to help home cooks create fresh, healthy and authentic Indian food, without preservatives or additives.

“It takes away having to find numerous spices which are only needed in small amounts. The idea is so unusual that we designed and manufactured our own packaging.”

Kitchen Guru met with Tesco at a ‘Meet the Buyer’ event organised by the Regional Food Group for Yorkshire and Humber.

Tesco regional marketing manager Elizabeth Rouse, said: “Kitchen Guru is such an innovative product, we are really pleased that our customers will be able to cook authentic Indian food with the greatest of ease!”

Kitchen Guru products are available in more than 300 nationwide independent food stores as well as other supermarkets and fine food retailers such as Harrods, Harvey Nichols and Selfridges.
