Baroness Warsi to inspire Muslim women into business

ONE of the country’s most powerful Muslim woman is to visit the region in a bid to encourage more Muslim women to achieve business success.

Baroness Sayeeda Warsi, shadow minister for community cohesion and social action, will be speaking at a Forward Ladies women’s networking event in Leeds on November 6.

The event will take place at Indian restaurant Mumtaz in Clarence Dock where Baroness Warsi will talk about her own achievements and her future role if the Conservative party win the next general election.

Baroness Warsi has campaigned for women’s rights in the UK and abroad whilst also having a successful career as a solicitor, setting up specialist law firm George Warsi Solicitors in Dewsbury.

As the youngest member of the House of Lords, she came to national prominence when she obtained the release of school teacher Gillian Gibbons, imprisoned in Sudan for blasphemy after allowing school children to name a teddybear ‘Mohammed’.

She was instrumental in the launch of Operation Black Vote in West Yorkshire in 1996 and was for many years an executive member of the Kirklees Racial Equality Council.

She is also a member of the Joseph Rowntree Charitable Trust’s Racial Justice Committee and regularly represents them at national conferences.

Forward Ladies is supported by Yorkshire Forward as part of its commitment to encouraging greater levels of female entrepreneurship.
