Business conference plan for York

YORK is to launch the city’s first annual business conference in October.

The event will explore ways of creating the right environment for start-ups in the city, encouraging businesses to relocate to York and supporting the growth of existing companies.

City of York Council leader James Alexander said: ““York’s economy is relatively strong, especially in comparison with many other northern cities, but there is more we can do.

“The recession has had a significant impact on many of our businesses, and I am committed to finding ways to support them. But I also want to foster an entrepreneurial spirit in York, encouraging the creation of new businesses and attracting companies to the city.

“Research shows that a strong economy and high employment is vital to narrowing the inequality gap between the richest and poorest in our society. The business conference will provide us with an opportunity for business leaders across the region to come together to debate how we address these issues.”

Coun Alexander will meet business leaders at meetings of the York Economic Partnership and York Business Forum this week.
