Marathon effort by business team

YORKSHIRE business leaders Gary Verity and Andrew Palmer and David Parkin of TheBusinessDesk.com have successfully completed the New York Marathon to raise money for Marie Curie Cancer Care in Yorkshire.

Mr Verity, chief executive of tourist authority Welcome to Yorkshire, led a team of 14 friends and colleagues including CBI regional director Mr Palmer and Leeds United commercial manager Steve Lewis, in the 26.2 mile race on Sunday.

The team have already raised almost £250,000 for the charity but are continuing their fundraising to reach a target of £500,000.

Gary Verity completed the course, run through all five boroughs of New York, in 5hrs 49mins, Andrew Palmer’s time was 5hrs 21mins, Steve Lewis was 5hrs 16mins while David Parkin ran the course in 4hrs 50mins.

Mr Verity has drawn inspiration from his wife Helen’s battle with cancer to try to raise to raise £500,000 which will pay for a massive 25,000 hours of nursing in Yorkshire by Marie Curie Cancer Care.
