Yorkshire’s food producers prove their excellence

FOOD manufacturers and retailers from across the region had their efforts recognised at this years deliciouslyorkshire awards.

Yummy Yorkshire Ice Cream Company took the top acolade of deliciouslyorkshire Supreme Product for its Lou’s Liquorice Ice Cream while Stephanie Moon, consultant chef at the Clocktower Restaurant at Rudding Park was named Champion.

Yummy Yorkshire also took Best Dairy Product for its ice-cream. The deliciouslyorkshire Newcomer award went to Roots Farmshop & Café.

Diners were treated to a specially prepared menu created by Rudding Park using products from the short-listed entries.

Chief executive Jonathan Knight, who led proceedings alongside Radio 2’s Nigel Barden, said: “The standard of entries for the awards gets progressively higher and this year was no exception.

“It’s very encouraging in the current economic climate to see that more than half of the shortlisted companies are less than two years old.”

This year saw a record 268 businesses enter the awards.

Yorkshire is home to some of the world’s best-known food companies and most passionate small enterprises with more than 1,100 food and drink producers employing around 55,000 people and with a combined turnover in excess of £8n.

Other award winners includes Shepherds Purse, Monks Folly – Best Cheese Product, Yorkshire Dales Meat Company, Aberdeen Angus 7 Week Matured Sirloin Steak – Best Fresh Meat Product, Taste Tradition, Hambleton Lightning Ham – Best Prepared Meat Product and Little Valley Brewery, Withens IPA – Best Drink Product.

Ripley Fudge Kitchen, Homemade Chocolate Fudge – Best Confectionery Product, Proper Maid, Dandelion and Burdock Cake – Best Bakery product,
Yorkshire Baker, Gluten Free Beef Steak and Mushroom Pie – Best Prepared Food Product, York Preserves, Double Fruit Raspberry Jam – Best Spices, Oils, Condiments and Preserves Product, Mackenzies Yorkshire Smokehouse, Oak Roast Salmon – Best Fish & Seafood product, and WS Bentley Growers, Sprouting Peas – Best Fresh Produce Product.

Nethergill Farm -deliciouslyorkshire Breakfast Member of the Year, Cedarbarn Farmshop & Café – Best use of Regional Produce on a Menu- Café/Tearoom,
The Black Swan at Oldstead – Best use of Regional Produce on a menu- Restaurant/Pub/Inn, The Farmers Cart – Farm Shop Retailer of the Year,
Fodder – Independent Retailer of the Year, The Balloon Tree Farmshop & Café – award for Innovation.
